This special event at The Diggers Club - Heronswood offers an immersive, hands-on introduction suitable for beginners and enthusiasts alike.
This class is designed to provide participants with the basic principles and horticultural knowledge necessary to design and maintain bonsai, and students will learn to wire, shape and pot a bonsai that is theirs to take home at the end of the day.
Expert Instruction by Australia’s Leading Bonsai Team
The workshop is led by Jeff Barry, one of the country’s most respected bonsai artists.
Jeff has taught for more than 20 years, served as the inaugural Artist in Residence at the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia, and continues to contribute as both an ambassador and selector.
Our team’s work has featured in major films, advertising campaigns, magazines, and is currently showcased in the Binge TV series All Her Fault.
What You Will Learn
Throughout the day, participants will gain the foundational skills required to design and care for their own bonsai, including:
- Wiring and shaping
- Pruning and structural refinement
- Understanding long-term tree health
- The avenues to grow bonsai skills
Each attendee will style their own tree and take home a completed bonsai at the end of the session.
All Materials Included
Your enrolment provides everything needed for the workshop including
tree, pot, tools, wire, premium potting medium, and detailed course notes.
Students are encouraged to sketch and take notes during the session.
