This specifically designed tool is used to remove a whole branch at the trunk. The concave cut left behind calluses over itself, improving the chances of leaving little or no scar, which in most cases is the desired effect. The clean cut produced by this tool also increases the speed of healing. Using shears for this procedure will result in an unattractive scar on the trunk. The Chojo Branch Cutter is offered in two sizes, to accomodate branches of differing thicknesses. The small (180mm) branch cutter can remove branches with a maximum girth of 6mm and the large (210mm) tool can remove branches up to 8mm. As a general rule, the branch cutter should be used on a branch that is less than a third of the length of its blade. Attempting to cut larger branches risks damaging the cutting jaws of the tool. It is also best to use the rear ends of the blades to cut and not the blade tip. Extra care should be taken with this as the blade is the portion of the tool most at risk of breaking, especially if there is any twisting movement when the branch is cut.
