Our Development Immersive class is a one day class (part of a 12 month, 4-part course) designed to provide participants with the basic principles and horticultural knowledge necessary to develop their bonsai and raw material in a way that sets up future foundations and professional grade quality. Students will learn the difference between an average bonsai with a nice canopy of foliage, and trees of exceptional quality with the right structure and development.
This immersive learning experience is aimed towards students or practitioners who want to move beyond surface-level styling, and engage in more of the deeper, technical aspects of tree development. By mastering these foundational techniques, students will leave with the ability to transform young or raw material into bonsai that could become future masterpieces - trees that display both natural beauty and expert craftmanship.
Whether you're aiming for personal growth or pursuing bonsai at a professional level, this course will provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to elevate your practise to new heights.
Our immersive classes are a blend of hands-on practice, expert demonstrations, and detailed discussions, to ensure students walk away with the knowledge and techniques needed to build and shape a tree from ground up. The course covers key developmental techniques such as trunk thickening, controlling root spread and nebari development, branch structure, and much more. Instructors will guide participants through each stage, demonstrating how every decision made in early phases of development directly impacts the trees long term aesthetics, health and structural integrity.
Comprehensive notes outlining the course are provided, however note taking and sketching is encouraged, so please bring a pen or pencil with you.
Our 4-part Immersive classes only run once per year at this stage, with each class spread out and timed accordingly over the 12 month period to utilise the seasonal advantages and timing of certain practices.
The class will run from 10am - 4pm with a lunch break in between.
